In the latest partnership between Pantalha and the Lisbon Videoteca, the Municipal Archive Division, Pantalha provided the Filmfabriek HDS + scanner, enabling the Videoteca to make significant advances in the digitization and preservation of historical archives.

As the Lisbon Videoteca faced some constraints in preserving old audiovisual content, essential to its mission and various ongoing projects, such as TRAÇA – Show of Films and Family Archives, acquiring a high-quality and versatile scanner became imperative.

Thus, the Filmfabriek HDS + quickly became a more than satisfactory solution, considering all its technical features:

Format Versatility: This equipment offers versatility capable of digitizing 8mm, super 8mm, 9.5mm, and 16mm films, catering to diverse digitization needs.

Film Cleaning: Through two film cleaning sections, one dry and one wet (Wetgate), it is possible to remove most of the dirt from older films, ensuring a higher quality result.

High Resolution: The scanner offers the possibility of frame-by-frame digitization up to 4K Cinema+ (4096 x 3000) in 8mm and 16mm films, capturing all the small details and essential color palettes. Additionally, it also provides digitization of soundtracks.

Ease of Use: The scanner is intuitive and easy to set up, both in terms of hardware and firmware, and its maintenance is simple and can be done by ourselves.

Pantalha's technical team assisted in the installation of the Filmfabriek HDS+, configuring the equipment to meet the specific needs of the institution. Additionally, detailed training was provided so that the Videoteca would become familiar with the operation of the scanner, the digitization software, and its advanced features.

For all these reasons, the Videoteca expressed great satisfaction with the performance of the Filmfabriek HDS +. It can now digitize film reels of different formats, achieving results of exceptional quality.

The preservation of moving images of historical events and tangible and intangible heritage forms the basis of a place's cultural and historical identity. Thus, the Videoteca can collect and digitize film reels in Lisbon, making it possible for them to be viewed and studied later.

In its TRAÇA project, the Videoteca is dedicated to collecting family films, valuing the individual and collective memories that form an understanding and testimony of a neighborhood's history. Every two years, in October, the TRAÇA project takes place in a different location in Lisbon, providing the exhibition of these films, which are worked on by artists from various fields and framed with the participation of the residents. In this way, a real or imaginary narrative is offered that maps local history.

Thus, the Filmfabriek HDS + will continue to provide free digitization of a film collection, enabling the realization of projects like TRAÇA and many others.
