Altice Portugal introduces RTS equipment in its structure

Hybrid and portable intercom equipment allows greater flexibility in internal and external communication.

We know that our industry, still in transition, is full of more traditional and legacy equipment, while new investments are made for more modern equipment, with new technologies and operating principles. As a result, companies are faced with the challenge of trying to use their existing equipment and infrastructure, whose investment has already been substantial, and at the same time integrating them with new investments where possible.

Altice Portugal was no exception and needed to improve its intercommunication infrastructure, both for its external customers and internal communications with its field operators.

External Challenge

For its external customers, the Altice team in Monsanto (Centro Emissor de Sinais de Televisão) had a legacy system and was dependent on phone calls to some of its customers in order to inform or receive information, often urgent. It was therefore intended to create a more direct and simple line of communication and to add a connection to the intercom equipment already existing in its customers and through the Altice infrastructure already implemented, which would mostly take the form of 4-wire connections (analog).

With RTS' ODIN solution, Pantalha can provide a matrix with only 16 channels that accept digital connections (OMNEO and DANTE) but also up to 16 4-wire analog connections. With the possibility of expansion, via license, of up to 128 channels in a single rack unit (1RU), Altice is ready for future expansions and additions of channels to its remaining external customers according to their needs. With Pantalha's technical help in the installation, configuration, and definition of the correct pins to connect, Altice was at the touch of a button to get in touch with some of its most important customers and prepared for their future digitalization.

Internal Challenge

Additionally, the need for the Technical Center in Monsanto (currently called Video Operation Center [VOC]) was also discussed to need a remote communication method that was not dependent on telephone calls - not for field operators, but for their colleagues at the plant, which can quickly become chaotic in times of great pressure, and even impossible to be on the phone with several colleagues and customers at the same time.

Pantalha presented the VLink solution by RTS, which makes it possible to turn any mobile device, including laptops and computers, into an intercom panel. By integrating the VLink server with the existing ODIN matrix, Altice Portugal makes it possible for its operators in the field to use their phones or mobile equipment via the VLink application, and for colleagues at the center to be able to respond to them, individually, at the same time. , for certain groups or any other configuration they want, with the simple press of buttons on your KP-4016 panel, reducing the complexity and stress of communication in all occasions, but especially on those of high intensity and urgency.
